The birth of a new baby into the family of the Boti Tribe is considered to be the greatest blessing they can receive. The villagers have a special ceremony to welcome the new member into the community beginning shortly after the birth of the child known as the adat Loe in the local Timor Dawan dialect. The first ceremony of the adat Loe should be held four days after the birth to welcome the child into the village. Four months after the welcoming ceremony the child receives his or her name during a second ritual. Finally, a hair cutting ceremony is held whenever the child’s mother becomes pregnant with a new baby to symbolize that she is with child again.
