Bringing community voices into decision-making processes
OUR APPROACH
Using a participatory photography framework, Photovoices International empowers community participants to bring local knowledge and insights into decision-making processes resulting in better and more sustainable decisions. Typically, the PVI program lasts 6-8 months

This approach has three main objectives:

-
Photovoices Participants document and reflect on strengths and challenges that exist in their environment: they focus on the issues that together they have chosen to take on during the project.
-
Photovoices participants increase, knowledge, skills, self-confidence, and a sense of agency: they engage in a facilitated learning process and critical dialogue with other members of the community as well as experts, government officials, and others.
-
Photovoices participants reach out to decision makers, depending on the goals of the project: They have the opportunity to take action for positive change by taking their concerns and ideas to decision makers.
